Finding Your Purpose

I had the pleasure of hearing a sermon Wednesday night and it got me thinking. It was about purpose, and finding God's purpose for your life then acting on it. This really got me thinking, we often think about and focus all of our energy on the grand purpose for our lives. The one thing, the one ministry that God put us on the earth to fulfill. It's true, we all have one of those, but lets be honest, it can get pretty exhausting focusing all of our energy on figuring it out. Not to mention while were focusing our energy on trying to find that one specific thing, how many other opportunities from the Lord are we missing? There is more he wants us to do than just one grand act or one area of ministry. Each day we are here isn't by chance or because we got lucky enough to be alive. We are here each day because God still wants each of us to be here. We are here because on this very day, no matter how bland or gloomy it may seem, on this day, God has something he wants us to do. Maybe its a random act of kindness, maybe its reaching out to someone. Maybe its volunteering and ministering through time, through words, maybe simply picking up a piece of trash everyone else has walked over caught someones eye and made them wonder why we did that. Then that wonder becomes curiosity and curiosity wants answers which perhaps was the seed for someone else to tell them about the Lord even if we didn't get that chance, all we did was plant a seed with a small action. Our small actions can cause the biggest reactions. So I challenge you today, keep in the back of your mind what God's grand purpose for your life is, but don't let it get in the way of your completion of his purpose for your life today. You are here because you are meant to be here. What is God telling you your purpose is today? What is he asking you to do for him in this moment? In the hour? In the short 24 hours your given today, what is the reason God has given those to you?

Love Yo Selfie

Often times when you think about "love", where does your mind go? For some of us it might be the love shared between a couple or a family, friends etc. Rarely however do we think about ourselves. The world can feel like its spinning a million miles an hour, I know mine is. We spend so much time making sure everyone else is okay that we often times neglect ourselves. We love everyone and try to make sure they know that, but what about making sure we know we love ourselves? That were happy with who we are? You may be thinking I've gone crazy right now trying to tell you to love yourself lol. I'm serious though, we are our biggest critics and I feel like we spend so much time critiquing ourselves that we forget to be happy with who we are. We tend to excuse mistakes of ones we care  about, as we should but then we dwell on our own mistakes and let them tear us apart. We need to show ourselves the compassion we show others and we need to be comfortable with who we are as ...

Stillness

As someone accustomed to being constantly on the go and busy, I've always found the concept of stillness almost nerving.  When someone tells you to spend time being still in God's presence, I don't know about you but I always pictured literally sitting still with nothing to occupy myself. To say the least due to this perception stillness is something I'd avoid. As I've began seeking God as a new mother, he's hit me with a new perspective that I'd like to share in the hopes it can aid and encourage others to embrace being still.  Stillness is different for everyone, perhaps for some it is sitting and doing absolutely nothing, meditating on God's word, for others maybe it's prayer or being alone and singing worship music. Being still with God is eliminating distractions of this world and focusing fully on him. What helps your mind go quiet? What helps you tune into God's voice and block out the world? Personally I've found its worship music and...

Defining Life Through Choices

Life is a crazy thing, what's crazier is how we each define the course we take through it. Often times we categorize our lives by the bigger more obvious choices, for instance taking a job, going back to school, getting married, having children etc. If we created a road map of our lives on paper it would likely consist of big landmark choices. Is it truly those big choices however that sum up our lives? Is it really those land mark sized choices that got us where we are today and propel us further into the future? I'd like to argue that they are not. Every day, every moment we are faced with choices, big and small choices. Perhaps the most seemingly miniscule choices are in fact the most monumental. When you start your day, what thoughts do you allow into your head? How do you nurture your mind, body and soul when you rise and when you begin to settle down for the day? How do you choose to interact with those around you, how do you speak to them? How do you speak to yourself, ...
