Coming Back to Center

Do you ever feel like the world is spinning a mile a minute and no matter how hard you try, you just can't keep up? I feel like its in these times we find ourselves drifting from what matters most. What matters most, commonly being God, our family and relationships we hold dear. It's easy to get wrapped up in life and that's why its so important to find ways to come back to center. Our center is that place in  our lives that not everything is perfect because honestly perfection doesn't exist. Rather the place in our lives where we have our priorities straight and we know not only what we want but what were fighting for. As a devoted Christian, my center is the place where I feel connected to God, even when everything is going wrong, the connection with God is my solid ground. This means my priorities need to put him first, an outward reflection  of myself devoted to God. It's easy to go astray from this and when things get as busy as they are right now, I'm no exception to that. What I want to share with all of you tonight is how I feel God has brought me back to my center. Every day is busy, in all of our lives, a moment of silence is rare and what's even more rare is not having an immediate resource to "fix" any problem or concern. Well today I had the pleasure of hiking my favorite trail and on the way back my mind was buzzing with everything that could possibly go wrong even though I knew it would all be fine. It felt as if even in that big open space the whole world was caving in on me mentally. I realized if some of these scenarios were to occur, there's no phone service, no fast resources etc. In that moment however I realized the true beauty of this, yes I knew everything would be fine, but in the hustle and bustle of life, id been drifting from God. So God took this opportunity when I had nothing and no one else to rely on and used it to remind me to lean on him, remind me he is my solid. He reminded me that while I have so many "temporary fixes" he is the only eternal truth, the protector against all. God used that moment to bring me back to center, and you know what's really great? This is what God does for everyone, he takes the moments where were panicked, feeling forgotten, feeling lost, he takes the moments none of us would expect him to use and he uses them to bring us back to center! He uses them to bring us back to him. Even when we feel lost or we've wandered, he extends out his hand to guide us home, shines a light in the dark. I find it truly amazing how God works and how sometimes we go astray from him but he never once goes away from us! Find your center and if your not sure what that is, pray about it and let the light of the world guide you home! :)

Love Yo Selfie

Often times when you think about "love", where does your mind go? For some of us it might be the love shared between a couple or a family, friends etc. Rarely however do we think about ourselves. The world can feel like its spinning a million miles an hour, I know mine is. We spend so much time making sure everyone else is okay that we often times neglect ourselves. We love everyone and try to make sure they know that, but what about making sure we know we love ourselves? That were happy with who we are? You may be thinking I've gone crazy right now trying to tell you to love yourself lol. I'm serious though, we are our biggest critics and I feel like we spend so much time critiquing ourselves that we forget to be happy with who we are. We tend to excuse mistakes of ones we care  about, as we should but then we dwell on our own mistakes and let them tear us apart. We need to show ourselves the compassion we show others and we need to be comfortable with who we are as ...

Stillness

As someone accustomed to being constantly on the go and busy, I've always found the concept of stillness almost nerving.  When someone tells you to spend time being still in God's presence, I don't know about you but I always pictured literally sitting still with nothing to occupy myself. To say the least due to this perception stillness is something I'd avoid. As I've began seeking God as a new mother, he's hit me with a new perspective that I'd like to share in the hopes it can aid and encourage others to embrace being still.  Stillness is different for everyone, perhaps for some it is sitting and doing absolutely nothing, meditating on God's word, for others maybe it's prayer or being alone and singing worship music. Being still with God is eliminating distractions of this world and focusing fully on him. What helps your mind go quiet? What helps you tune into God's voice and block out the world? Personally I've found its worship music and...

Defining Life Through Choices

Life is a crazy thing, what's crazier is how we each define the course we take through it. Often times we categorize our lives by the bigger more obvious choices, for instance taking a job, going back to school, getting married, having children etc. If we created a road map of our lives on paper it would likely consist of big landmark choices. Is it truly those big choices however that sum up our lives? Is it really those land mark sized choices that got us where we are today and propel us further into the future? I'd like to argue that they are not. Every day, every moment we are faced with choices, big and small choices. Perhaps the most seemingly miniscule choices are in fact the most monumental. When you start your day, what thoughts do you allow into your head? How do you nurture your mind, body and soul when you rise and when you begin to settle down for the day? How do you choose to interact with those around you, how do you speak to them? How do you speak to yourself, ...
