Tonight a lot of things happened, a lot of blessings occurred as well as some realizations. First off we had our very first small group session which was so amazing. Just getting to connect with people on that emotional level strengthens a person more then you can even begin to know. Afterwards as I was thinking over what we discussed and so on, I had some realizations. I realized these things before now but it kinda hit me more intensely or at a new view point per-say. The first realization I had is that we really cant change our pasts.. What we can do however is make sure we shape our future into what God wants for us. We needs to think of our past mistakes as learning experiences and not hold things against ourselves or other people. Holding onto a grudge etc, doesn't hurt anyone else, it only hurts us. We need to make sure we let go of our regrets and feelings of anger because that could be clouding what God wants to show us in our lives. This brings me to a quote i thought of tonight, "Life is like an unwritten text book, we know only what we have read, and we will learn what we have yet to read." I thought of this just as I was thinking of my perception of life and I realized how true it is.. Life is like a text book, our past is the pages we've read, full of emotion and lessons etc that prepare and teach us for the chapters we will face next. In those chapters we will learn and grow more. And in the end when we've learned everything our text book has to offer than our Father calls us home and we take everything we've learned, and put it to use in his kingdom. Everyone's text book is different because we all have different paths, different chapters, story lines if you will for our lives. And every book has its own specific purpose ,not just in this world but a specific purpose in our forever homes with our creator. Pastor Wayne says it best, we need to live not for earthly things but for heavenly things because this earth.. its temporary... but our God... that's forever!
A thought came to me today as I stumbled upon some inspirational posts. Why are we often so eager to escape our troubling circumstances. We get trapped in the fire and get so focused on getting out that perhaps we miss the most important question of all, what refining needs to be completed in the fire? Just as a welder uses the fire to shape and refine metal, so God uses our circumstances, "fires" to shape and refine us. If he simply swooped in and saved the day, we would lack the knowledge he hopes us to gain, we wouldn't grow in character or wisdom. In the fire we think he abandom us, left us to our own devices, but in reality he is more present in the fire even then in the calm. It's when we feel abandoned that he's calling to us the loudest, beckoning us to just open our ears to listen to his voice. Take the fires in stride, don't immediately reach for the extinguisher. Allow the flames to surround you with the confident knowledge that the one whom the...
